I remember seeing outlines of people (like police chalk outlines except done with ash maybe?) around campus like three or four weeks ago. I saw one on the botany pond bridge but didn't remember it until I saw another one outside of Cobb. One of my friends said they saw one too, out by Crerar. Did anyone ever figure out what they were for, like an RSO event or something?

I saw one by the Reg, but I thought it was some really strange student government election thing. Maybe it was something else?

Glad to see someone else found this forum. Yeah there were SG elections then weren't there? From the candidates I remember though ash outlines of people wouldn't have made any sense. I can't be sure but I think the figures were unrelated. Have you noticed anything else around campus that you thought was strange?

Well there have been some symbols that I keep seeing around campus, don't know what they are or anything but I've seen them on some random fliers.

I noticed those too! Glad to see I'm not the only one who's been finding some weird stuff on campus.

Some time last quarter there were a couple of weird things on the quads: (1) potatoes with staples pressed into them, creating a sort of artsy pattern and (2) Something yellow-- I assumed a squash-- with feathers stuck into it. The potatoes were stuck, one each, in the little trees in pots in the middle of the main quad and the maybe-squash was on top of the fence next to hull gate.

There was definitely an RSO that had some kind of chalk campaigning involving outlines -- I want to say it was some kind of human rights campaign. Supposed to remind us how many people die every day because of injustices relating to human trafficking or something... don't remember what it was specifically. But, not sure we're talking about the same thing. These were definitely sidewalk chalk, not "ash."

It wasn't chalk, unless someone ground up black chalk into powder. Do they even make black chalk? I presume they do, but in any case I think it was ash.

Hmm, fits in with the veve bit, or at least as much as Wikipedia tells us. "A veve is usually drawn on the floor by strewing a powder-like substance, commonly cornmeal, wheat flour, bark, red brick powder, or gunpowder, though the material depends entirely upon the ritual. In Haitian Vodou, a mixture of cornmeal and wood ash is used."
