Well, it looks like there was something more in the images, Janice was able to crack it and sent out her results through the e-mail list, but I figured I'd throw it up here for posterity. I'll just quote from her verbatim since I still don't fully understand what she did: Okay, so I finally figured out the image/text "puzzle"! Basically when you open the rtf file (fragCong#-.rtf), you'll see 6 different groups of nonsensical text. Each separate group actually appears in the jpg file (when you open with text edit, you see a bunch of similar type of weird codes and whatnot. Doing a quick search will help you find the identical match). The first group of text appears 1 too many times, the second group of text 2 too many times, so on and so forth. Once you delete all the extras, save the file as a jpg and it should come out as a clear image. I attached the first one, which was a success. The second and especially the third didn't come out too good, but in my defense, my eyes are really dried up (damn contacts!) and I'm getting tired of staring into bright objects for too long. If someone else could figure it out, that'd be sweet, but I'm pretty sure I'll get cracking on this tomorrow if no one does it by then. Hopefully the image in its proper form will reveal some more important clues... img829.imageshack.us/i/success1.jpgimg221.imageshack.us/i/success2.jpgimg96.imageshack.us/i/successs3.jpg

Awesome! If we can unscramble the other two messages the same way, I wonder if they're related to the numbers/codes in the "improbable is possible" email (which is a line from the first message).

Thanks. This isn't irrelevant. With these images, we know something more about the story now too.

Wow, I don't think I ever would have worked that out. That's awesome.
Word on the story part. I think we should definitely start paying more attention to the narrative.
edit: Also, what mailing list is this?
